Savings at the pump

The much lower cost of LPG compared to unleaded petrol means the cost of conversion is quickly covered in cheaper costs at the service station.

For example, if LPG averaged 55 cents per litre over a year while unleaded petrol averaged $1.40 per litre, a motorist with a six-cylinder car travelling 25,000 kilometres a year on LPG would save $1918 - the equivalent of $37 per week.

Assuming the system cost $2500 to install, it would take only 16 months to pay for itself, even without the $2000 government grant.
