UNIGAS is committed to respecting privacy of individuals, and to upholding the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988. This privacy policy explains how UNIGAS collects, uses, discloses and handles personal information about individuals it deals with (you). What Personal Information Do We Collect and Why?The types of personal information that we collect about you will depend on the nature of your dealings with us.
UNIGAS needs to collect personal information from you in order to supply the relevant customer with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and associated services. This may include the establishment and administration of an account (if applicable), and managing our relationship with the customer. The personal information we collect includes name, contact details, residential & postal addresses, date of birth, drivers licence, and for customers, financial position, bank, trade creditors, partners and LPG delivery details. Sometimes we use personal information about you in order to tell you about LPG and associated products and services on offer from UNIGAS and related companies, and special deals which UNIGAS or related companies may be offering.
UNIGAS also collects personal information about the people it does business with. This will usually arise where we collect the name and business contact details of a person who is the contact person in one of our suppliers. UNIGAS only uses business contact information for the business purpose for which it was collected (e.g. contract administration). Will Personal Information be given to Anyone Else?
UNIGAS may disclose personal information about you to UNIGAS’ related companies, to inform you of special deals which those related companies may be offering. UNIGAS may disclose personal information about you to credit reporting agencies (with your consent), if this is necessary in order for us to establish and maintain your account.
Personal information collected by UNIGAS may be disclosed to third parties to whom UNIGAS contracts out specialised functions (for example, IT systems support, mailing houses, debt collection agencies, LPG delivery contractors). If we disclose personal information to our external service providers, we ask them to comply with the National Privacy Principles when they handle personal information about you.
Otherwise, UNIGAS will only disclose personal information if you consent, or if this is required by law or otherwise permitted under the Privacy Act. UNIGAS does not sell, rent or trade personal information about you to or with third parties. Security of Personal InformationUNIGAS takes steps to ensure the security of your personal information from such risks as unauthorised access, loss or misuse. Your personal information is held on UNIGAS’ computer and is only accessible by UNIGAS’ employees, LPG delivery and payment receipting contractors. Access and CorrectionUnder the Privacy Act, you have the right to request access to the personal information which UNIGAS holds about you (although there are some exceptions to this). You also have the right to ask us to update or correct your personal information when it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. If you wish to exercise your right under the Privacy Act to seek access to the personal information that UNIGAS holds about you, please contact UNIGAS on the contact details below. For privacy reasons, your access request must be in writing and provide us with a daytime telephone number at which you can be contacted. This will enable us to consider and respond to your access request. Ordinarily, UNIGAS will not charge you for the cost of providing you with access to the current records we hold about you. To provide you with access we would ordinarily provide you with print-outs from our databases. If you request access to information in our archives, we may charge you for the cost of providing access. Under the Privacy Act, we are only required to provide you with access to personal information collected before 21 December 2001 if we have used or disclosed that information after that date, and if providing access does not impose an unreasonable administrative burden or expense upon UNIGAS. If you make an access request, UNIGAS will try to respond to your request promptly, although as noted above, providing access to archived records may take some time. After we have provided you with access, if you are of the view that the personal information we hold about you is not accurate, complete or up to date, please let us know.
